IBC Site Classification Determination Using Surface Wave Micro-Tremor Method
Four surface wave soundings (micro tremor MASW) were completed at the approach pillars and abutments on each side of a replacement bridge to aid in the foundation design. Each sounding recorded active source and passive micro-tremor data to achieve about 120 feet of penetration. Results were arranged as a cross section that clearly showed three velocity inversion trends possibly caused by less compacted soil zones. The Vs100 values ranged between 685 and 743 so the International Building Code (IBC) Site Class was D (stiff soils).
